Day 12: Welcome to the Khumbu!

By James McKinney and Kate Voss

We’ve made it - this is the official half-way point of our expedition! The goal of this section of the expedition is to conduct a detailed GPR survey of Imja Lake and to meet with communities in the downstream valley to discuss potential solutions to the GLOF threat. This morning we said farewell to two members of the Hinku crew, and happily welcomed two new people for the Khumbu section of our expedition. After a relaxed morning, we descended into the Khumbu valley down to the Dudh Koshi River.  We meandered along the trail, and stopped in the town of Phakding for lunch before arriving in Monju. It should be a great two weeks – off we go!
